Each of us has barriers standing in our way of living and feeling better. The first step in the journey is to really look inward and be okay with who you are, just as you are, where you are. True acceptance of ourselves and our circumstances is the key to growth and change. Only then can we work toward resolution, growth, and mind & behavior shifts.

We need non-judgmental advocates to journey with us. We address the psychosocial impacts on our current wellness and how rehabilitating our thoughts and attitudes creates longterm change. We look at those self-inflicted, generational, and situational barriers that have caused us to become stuck in behaviors or situations no longer serving us well. We develop strategies to reduce their influence in our lives and create real change.

In sessions, you claim your rightful space to process real life issues, overcome challenges holding you back, and gain forward momentum. We partner together to create, achieve, and maintain goals for measurable results in your life right now.

Compassionate full-bodied listening is rare and yet, when you are given the space to be truly heard you can fully process your feelings and experiences and are able to access growth and internal knowing.

Because it’s life, we all face hard things in our daily lives. We look at the past to understand patterns and context and we work with the present and how your life is currently impacted. And with that, we create real life changes now. We can work to align the life we have with the life we want. i

ACCEPTANCE

We practice acceptance and non-judgment. Every person possesses a deep need to grow toward their potential; unconditional acceptance is at the root of growth. Because we are forever looking at what we want to improve, our energy is often focused on what we are not. This often blocks progress and causes resistance to change. When we start from a place of abundance, of self love and acceptance for who we are, we can then start to make healthy changes.

We change our quest from that which brings us temporary happiness to sustainable happiness. We do this by first asking ourselves these three questions:

  • What makes me feel alive when I THINK about doing it?

  • What makes me feel alive when I actually DO it?

  • What makes me feel alive AFTER I do it?

These choices lead to lasting feelings of well-being, connection, and flow.

SHORT BURSTS OF HELP

Ideally, we meet for 6-10 total sessions focusing on specific issues, challenges, and/or hurdles. Intensive short-term therapy has been proven to create lasting results, real change, and life improvement. When we enter counseling with a starting and ending point, you can enter fully into the experience with all your energy, no holding back. You are often able to give your entire self to the work because there is an end point in sight.

About Me

Following Rogerian and Internal Family Systems (IFS) in my person-centered approach to counseling, I find that deep nonjudgmental listening, unconditional positive regard, and asking good questions really help a person move through their process and come to a place of peace, renewed purpose, and growth. I use evidenced-based practices, tools, and methods learned from graduate school, the latest research, and from my professional experience in counseling.

As a lifelong learner, I hope my clients are as passionate about continuing to learn & grow. Along with a bachelor’s degree in counseling, I completed two master’s degrees including an M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Western Washington University in Bellingham and an M.A. in Pastoral Studies from Eden Seminary in St. Louis.

Currently, I hold two counseling credentials: a national certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and a state of Utah license as an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor (ACMHC). These work together to inform my work toward holistic care for my clients.

In addition to a two decade career in non-profit helping professions, I have built a career with a for-profit company in operations management and client relations and continued my education through an executive leadership program at the University of Utah business school. This framing informs my understanding of the unique stressors on women (and all genders) in the workplace as they balance their desire for career growth with their desire for family, health, friends, and hobbies.

Having lived across an array of western states (including Arizona, Washington, Hawaii, and, for the past six years, Utah), I have found great value in in the quality of life western U.S. upbringing and living offers. In my free time, I can be found playing games with my energetic ten year-old; knocking on my two teenagers’ closed doors trying to lure them out of adolescent stay-in-my-room-syndrome; practicing yoga with my partner or walking our dogs in our urban neighborhood; or simply sitting outside with a coffee & good book while saying HI to neighbors stopping by to peruse my little free library.

  • We all have heard that the pre-frontal cortex is not fully developed until at least age 25. This lack of development can lead to impulsivity and lack of ability to discern action’s consequences.

    In this day and age, it is rare to encounter a young person whom has not wrestled with anxiety and/or depression.

    Here’s how we help:

    We look at the whole person and work to develop healthy strategies to deal with overwhelm, shame, doubt, anxiety, depression, etc.

    We work on goal-setting in all areas of life: social, emotional, mental, and physical. It helps to figure out strengths and abilities along with personality style through a myriad of assessments and questions and even games. The information we gather works as framework to inform goal creation and steps toward achievement.

    We work to determine steps toward independence and self-responsibility.

    We focus on small or big changes that can be made toward a fulfilling future.

  • We all go through many life transitions such as marriage, divorce, career change, having children, empty-nesting, caring for and/or death of an aging parent or loved one, and significant milestone birthdays.

    These life events cause us to pause and re-evaluate life. We often need to process and share our stories in order to move through the current state to a new understanding.

    I work specifically with women & non-binary individuals (approx. 30’s through 60’s), who are in the middle of it all! Career, child-raising, aging parents, financial decisions, maintaining a household, maintaining relationships with partner, friends, children, parents…

    There is life as we know it and life as we want it. Are these out of sync for you?

    We can do hard things! So says Glennon Doyle and practically every woman I have ever met. Being a woman typically comes with resilience and determination to do all the things, sometimes to the detriment of self.

    How did women get sucked into the mentality that having it all means doing it all and how can we get out of it?

  • Did you grow up in a religious upbringing in which you no longer identify? Maybe there are parts that you want to keep and parts that you struggle to let go of, even if they no longer resonate.

    Perhaps your childhood or early adulthood experience needs validated, heard, and processed before you can move on. Perhaps you had some really hard experiences or even trauma that needs to be worked through.

    Space to heal. Space to figure out where to go from here.

    Maybe you have already processed your childhood faith and are ready to find something new that resonates more with your life experience and perspective and you would like help navigating that.

    As a former minister and director of religious education, with a master’s degree in theology, I understand the spectrum of religious experience and culture. I, myself, grew up in a very fundamentalist household and clung to that for a time in my search for what is good and true. But neither my childhood faith, nor the faith of my twenties, fit my lived experience.

    The truth is, if we don’t live in bubbles, soon enough, any religious rigidity isn’t nuanced enough to contain our human experience. In my thirties, I developed a new form of faith expression and identity and have lived and grown further in that ever since.

    I am about love and appreciation for your unique human experience and want to hear about it and help you make sense of it for today. There are pieces you may want to keep and pieces you may want to purge. There are new ways of resonating with the world, the divine, and the meaning of life. I am devoted, not to helping others find my truth. But to find theirs.
